Senior Executive starting again? Use the The Seven Step Process for Setting and Achieving Your Goals.
January 17, 2012 — FocalPoint Bus...
I think you’ll like this post. If you are considering a new career you probably have questions on where to start. Perhaps you want to go into consulting or training. Or, just find something you really love to do.
I had to re-invent my career once ( at least once!). I left a position and had a few bucks in the bank so I wasn’t all that stressed at the time.
I was with my wife in a really nice tourist area along the coast and saw these cool little water taxi’s. I joked with her that I was going to get a job on one of them for the summer just so I could relax.
It would have been great, even just for the laughs. I didn’t do it, but I still remember how badly I wanted to. In the end I got into what I do now, and I love it.
Here’s the thought process I used. I learned this from Brian and put it into action…it works!
First, decide exactly what you want in each area of your life. Be specific!
Second, write it down, clearly and in detail.
Third, set a specific deadline. If it is a large goal, break it down into sub-deadlines and write them down in order.
Fourth, make a list of everything you can think of that you are going to have to do to achieve your goal. As you think of new items, add them to your list.
Fifth, organize the items on your list into a plan by placing them in the proper sequence and priority.
Sixth, take action immediately on the most important thing you can do on your plan. This is very important!
Seventh, do something every day that moves you toward the attainment of one or more of your important goals. Maintain the momentum!
Only by discovering your innate strengths...by developing them...exploiting them to their highest degree--can you ever fully realize the greatest amount of satisfaction and enjoyment in everything you do.
We use exactly this system here when we coach our clients. It works.
